Profile of a CCDI practicum student

We’re looking for people who are passionate about diversity, inclusion, accessibility, equity and/or human rights. As a charity with limited resources, we need people who are flexible and versatile, who can run with a project or task and “figure it out” with limited supervision and produce quality results. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in MS Office.

Please note you must currently be enrolled in a university or college program to be eligible for Practicum Student positions at CCDI. Successful candidates will be required to provide written approval from their university or college prior to their start date.

About the opportunities

Opportunity 1: Research assistant (2 positions - unpaid)

In this role, you will conduct research and administrative tasks for various CCDI research projects and initiatives.

Duties may include:
  • Conduct web research;
  • Conduct research on academic and grey literature;
  • Conduct research interviews;
  • Draft literature reviews, research report, briefs;
  • Conduct data entry, update databases;
  • Qualitative and/or quantitative analysis of collected data;
  • Design surveys for data collection;
  • Proofread and edit documents;
  • Construct automated reports;
  • Conduct quality assurance on data;
  • Compile and report metrics on CCDI clients and external organizations;
  • Assist with design/formatting of CCDI publications such as reports, toolkits, case studies
  • Provide ad hoc administrative support as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • You are willing to work in a fast-paced environment and are open to handling a variety of projects, with levels of responsibility ranging from administrative support to project lead.
  • You can commit to work with us for at least 8 months (Sept 2017-April 2018)
  • You can commit to work with us at least 8 hours per week
  • You have strong organizational skills and can work with minimal supervision.
  • You have excellent writing skills and communication skills.
  • You have great data management and data analysis skills.
  • You have experience conducting different types of research (professional and academic) using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
  • You have experience analyzing/ summarizing data from various sources to produce succinct, well-written reports or briefs.
  • You are comfortable using MS Office: Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint. Proficiency with MS Access would be an asset.
  • If selected for the position, you are willing to undergo a Police Clearance Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (a requirement of our security protocols).
  • Bilingual (French/English) would be an asset.

Opportunity 2: PROJECT MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT (1 position - unpaid)

In this role, you will be part of the project management team, assisting all its members with client management, product development, and administrative tasks for various CCDI consulting projects.

Duties may include:
  • Set-up business meetings documents, such as the agenda, the attendance list and the Project Management Guide;
  • Attend business meetings and write the meeting minutes;
  • Draft timelines, timesheets, and project reports;
  • Draft documents for specific consulting projects;
  • Design promotional material for specific consulting projects;
  • Proofread and edit documents;
  • Provide ad hoc administrative support as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • You are willing to work in a fast-paced environment and are open to handling a variety of projects, with level of responsibility ranging from administrative support to project lead.

  • You have experience or would like to gain experience in project management, including time and resources allocation, project reporting and/or project documentation.
  • You have experience or would like to gain experience in business and marketing, being able to take products and services to the next level.
  • You are comfortable using MS Office: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint. Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator would be an asset.
  • If selected for the position, you are willing to undergo a Police Clearance Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (a requirement of our security protocols).
