MEDIA STATEMENT - For immediate release

Our hearts go out to the victims and their families of this terrible tragedy.

Canada is a country of great diversity. We are a nation of many identities, abilities, cultures, faiths and beliefs. As Canadians we are known globally for our belief in the power of diversity and inclusion.

We know, in a time of confusion such as this one, there can be a tendency to default to stereotypes or unconscious biases to fill in the blanks. While there are yet many unanswered questions, we want to encourage Canadians to allow the authorities the time to investigate and provide the public with a definitive answer about the reality of what has occurred.

During that time remember that diversity is our strength, and that inclusion can help us through difficult times such as this.

The Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion envisions a Canada that celebrates diversity and inclusion, human rights, and equity. Our mission is to generate awareness, provide education, and inspire action that results in positive social change in Canadian communities, schools, and workplaces.
